Walmart is recalling more than 15 million frozen fruit and vegetable products in the United States, and some frozen foods from Walmart stores in Texas, Michigan and Illinois, after a recall was found to contain toxic levels of lead.
The Food and Drug Administration has confirmed that the recalled products are from Walmart’s Fruit of the Loom, Peach of the Moon and Grape of the Month line of frozen fruits and vegetables.
The products contain a toxin known as P-10-10, which has been linked to an increased risk of lung cancer.
Walmart is the first retailer to voluntarily recall a large portion of its frozen food products, the company said in a statement Friday.
The food recall includes fruit and vegetables including:The company said it will issue a full recall of all its frozen fruit, vegetable and fruit drinks, frozen fruits, frozen meat and frozen yogurt products.
It said frozen vegetables will be sold in supermarkets and convenience stores nationwide.
Walmart also said it is making a voluntary contribution to a fund that will support low-income children and families affected by the recall.
The company did not say when it will resume sales of its products.
