It’s just a little bit ridiculous.
Auckland resident Michael Wilson said the price he paid for his kiwiwi had gone up a whopping 50 per cent since it was purchased in December.””
We’re not going to be selling it, we’ll be stocking it.”
Auckland resident Michael Wilson said the price he paid for his kiwiwi had gone up a whopping 50 per cent since it was purchased in December.
“What you can do is look at what other markets have had to do, where they have had their own price increases,” Mr Wilson said, adding that he was disappointed to see the kiwim fruit now go to waste.
“We can’t go back to the old way of looking at it, that’s the way it’s been.”
Mr Wilson said he expected his fruit to be gone by Tuesday.
“They’ve just given it a few weeks.
It’s going to go to a landfill.”
The Kiwi fresh fruit basket sold for $49.99, which included the price of the kihiwi.
Mr Wilson’s basket is part of an ongoing project by Newmarket to sell off its produce.
Newmarket is the fourth-largest market in New Zealand and has a population of just over 5 million.
